AirDrives Interactive Stereo Earphones – A MomGadget Review

by Gayla Baer

airdrives Every household has one particular item that tends to need replaced more then any other and around our house, it’s earphones! With three teenage boys, each with iPods, stereo’s, computers and video games, you can imagine what a blessing it is to have earphones for most of those items. Without them, our home sounds like Grand Central Station during a Nintendo Convention for three-year-olds. I never noticed how thin my walls seemed until the last year or so.

While I do want the kids to enjoy their music and various electronics, I also want to know that if I call out to them, especially in an emergency that they’ll hear me. The AirDrives Interactive Stereo Earphones allow you to listen to your music while remaining safely aware of your surroundings.

As a mom, this is the most important feature to me! Secondly, I like the fact that it offers a airdrives2durable design that can withstand, well, even my kids – and their active lifestyle – equating to my spending a lot less money over time on earphone replacements.

We did a test of the product while having the kids utilizing the various electronic devices of their choice and when listening through the AirDrives at a suitable volume, they were able to hear me call them from rooms away. With one son’s room being on a different floor, I find considerable comfort in this safety feature.

I’m not a runner by any stretch of the imagination, but I’d imagine these would be perfect for someone who enjoys walking, running or even bike riding. They’d make a wonderful gift for graduation – what a great gift to send off to college with any young adult. Just that sense of security, knowing they’d be able to hear what’s going on around them is well worth the investment.

AirDrives are a bit pricey – but when you consider the durability and quality of the product, it’s quite possibly the last pair you’ll have to buy. AirDrives are available in children and adult sizes and are available for as little as $49.00 at GameShark Store and other retailers.

I’ve always had this problem with my sister, ill be wearing my headphones and she’ll be screaming to me and i cant hear her i tell her to just come up stairs but she starts going on about emengecys and how i wouldnt hear, they are a really good idea but a little expensive, also there needs to be more styles in a way.

i give it 7 out of 10 :] a great idea.

Thanks for the tip on these headphones. I’ll look for them next time my kids tell me they need new ones which happens about every 2 months. I usually pay about 30 bucks, so for a bit more, I’d love to have them be the last pair I buy. :)

Wow… Listening to music and hearing things in the background is a pretty cool concept. Great product!

You are right! The primary drawback of wearing earphones or headphones is the user’s inability to hear what’s going on around him especially when there’s an emergency. I am just glad that manufacturers are starting to attend on this matter; I just hope that the price will be more affordable.

You’re a life saver. I’ll be telling my husband all about these!

$50 for headphones? That’s a lot, but it is good if they’re extra durable. I bought a $25 pair made by Nike for the gym and the right one died after a couple months. Just switched to the cheap $10 ones that don’t break, but are also really uncomfortable and fall out whenever you jog.

I’ll definitely look into those, just have to stop my cats from chewing on them.

Indeed expensive. But if you say you can be heard through.. my kinds don’t listen to what I’m saying even without earphones ;) but I guess that comes with age. 3 years old nintendo thing is actually taking place chez moi ;)

This is great now I can wear this at work and it won’t be a safety issue. Thanks for your post.

mom…. beside gameshark store… which stores that sells this item with cheapest price?

I own a pair of airdrives and they work as advertised. I also use a product called lobie from mylobie.com. Same basic features but lobies only cost $12, come in lots of colors including clear, some with glitter. Lobies work with your ipod earbuds or any other earbud. bass response seems better.

This is a great find thanks for the post! At work I am able to wear headphones but at the same time I need to hear my phone ring, thank you for the suggestion!

Having recently taken up running, these look just what I need, jogging is pretty dull, so listeing to music is the answer but I feel a bit uneasy when I can’t hear what is going on around me, hopefully these will solve that problem.

Thanks.

earphones for running February 6, 2011 at 9:23 pm

These seems pretty good, I hope these sort of earphones won’t fall out because of the clips.

Hi Gayla,

Yes, it’s true that not being able to hear what’s going on in your surroundings is quite dangerous. But one should take heed to not use those sort of headphones when they’re on the pedestrian, jogging or even driving (yes I know some people who drive with earphones on). However, it’s nice to own a pair of noise-isolating earphones for that quiet day at the beach or a quiet moment all to yourself. It’s really a whole different listening experience. In-ear-monitors like the klipsch image s4 never fails to impress!!
