At least I’m not in Denver…

by Gayla Baer

Sorry for having not been online much lately.  It’s not for lack of trying, let me tell you! I’ve been in absolute tears for having not been able to stay online more than 5 minutes at a time :(
It seems that as hard as I try to keep my money in local businesses, it’s starting to work against me.

For the last 6 years, I’ve utilized the services of a local internet service provider and apparently it’s not compatible with the phone service provider I have where I live now.

It really saddens me to think that I’m going to have to move my service to some big company where I will truly be just a number.  I’ve loved the mom-and-pop feel of the provider I’ve had, their willingness to go that extra mile to help me with issues that would come up over the years.  Having to leave them is almost like having to leave family.

Over the next week, I’ll be in the market for a new provider. I’m seriously looking at satellite through my DirectTV-  though I’m having a very HARD time gnawing on that $599 equipment and installation fee – when I KNOW what it really consists of – I truly feel it’s extremely overpriced.

So, my other options are something like AOL – Earthlink – Netzero or Peoplepc. I’m not happy with the options I have, but those are the ONLY options I have at this point.

Anyone care to offer up some advice?

My phone service is Verizon and DSL is not offered here just yet.  They’re saying I’m within a couple of months, so if that’s true, it’s not that bad, I guess.

Over the last week I have done the following:

New phone lines throughout the house

Modem driver updates

Removed the modem and replaced it, cleaning the system out with compressed air while I was at it.

Updated anti virus and anti spy-ware programs – ran both

Did I miss something?

I have Earthlink as my back up to my cable. They have never let me down – I had them before I had high-speed.

My computer has been funky itself, it wouldn’t let me use the right click feature and then decided it wouldn’t let me save any of my work and I have deadlines looming. UGH. Okay I’m still typing away in hopes it’ll eventually let me. No clue what is wrong, it just did it while I was typing. BTW- I’ll have an entry on regifting later today if that is okay. More of a way to make sure you don’t have to be a re-gifter, etc.
