I used to work in a retail store and one year there were lines up the sidewalk to get in. The managers were letting the employees in only if we had our badges. People were trying to grab the badges out of our hands, push there way into the doors as we were let in, etc.

Scared me! I don’t shop on black friday if I can help it… not even at a grocery store.

I do try to stay away from the black Friday shopping experience, mainly because of the time when I was 10 and my family decided to just “quickly” make a stop at the mall on our way to my parents bowling league….well, suffice to say we never made it to the bowling alley, we were in the parking lot of the mall for at least an hour, and I don’t think my mom even got what she was after at the mall…so needless to say I avoid crowds.

i want this printer so bad, my husband has been asking for it. since we don’t have the money this year to buy each other anything. i acn’t get it.

my story. i have never been black friday shopping until i had kids of my own. it was two years ago i went. my husband was in iraq and i had my eight month old, plus i was pregnant.

i had filled up my buggy with stuff that were door busters so they were gone fast. my daughter kept coughing so i decided to pick her up out of the buggy. pat her on the back. i turned around for a split second, and my cart was gone.

i started to flip not only did it have great deals in there, but my diaper bag and daughters blanket etc. i finally found it and the lady who snatched it. we had a big altercation. the manager came over and told us both to leave. after the cops showed up because i wouldn’t leave. i had personnal belongings in my cart. they finally relized the cart was mine, and let me retrieve my stuff and buy my items. i had to leave immediately after.

i rarely ever shop on black friday now, unless there is a deal that’ll save me tons of money. which is rare.

no chance of winning. I’m a last minute and/or online shopper. Something about Christmas shopping on Christmas eve seems fun to me. Maybe because that’s when our parents took my sister and I out to get presents for each other. I’d go with dad, she’d go with mom. This year, I got my oldest a few gifts in a bag from target’s $1 section because they were so perfect for her about a month ago. I don’t think I’ve shopped on Black Friday in years (unless you count grocery shopping after 6 pm). I spent most of this Black Friday in and out of bed (in and out, because I have 3 kids, so staying in bed isn’t an option)

My favorite holiday shopping trip, would be on Christmas Eve, right before my shift at Meijer (which actually closes in the evening on Christmas Eve), with no car, and $100 to spend on extended family. Somehow I managed to convince the husband to come with our daughter, by bus. We brought the carseat along in hopes that we could get his parents to pick him up there. We got there I think about an hour or so before I had to clock in. Nothing spectacular, except the idea of riding a bus with a toddler and a bunch of gifts… and running around the store to get them all in an hour (there was our daughter, and us, and then I had 3 siblings and a mother – he had 1 sibling, 2 step siblings, a dad and stepmom, his mother and grandparents from all sides) but it was delicious fun… I don’t remember whether or not he ended up riding the bus or getting a ride home, though… I’ll have to ask him about that one.

My husband and I have only been braving Black Friday for a few years now. The first year we decided to hit Best Buy for some great deals on electronics.

We grabbed our finds and got in this humongous line that snaked all over the store. While waiting in line, we noticed the woman in front of us was struggling with her packages, so we lightened her load by letting her use our cart.

We also struck up a conversation with the people in back of us.

Soon, everyone was on a first name basis and we shared some great stories and laughs! When it came time to checkout, we didn’t want to leave!

Every year, we try to keep it light and be friendly to fellow shoppers in hope that they will do the same.
