I picked up MacJournal back in March courtesy of MacHeist. Back then I wrote a quick blurb as I was discovering the neat little tricks MacJournal has to offer. As an online reviewer I thought it would come in handy to write and track my articles. Little did I know, this little $40 application from Mariner Software would become the best friend a writer could have.
In addition to writing reviews and uploading directly to MomGadget, I also write, edit, and post articles to my personal blogs complete with tags, categories, links, photos, audio, and video. Adding content to Creative Procrastination is easier than ever. I can even download all my previous posts for archiving. This is an excellent way to keep track of every word I write.
MacJournal resides in my dock so with one click I have access to all my completed works and WIPs. My writing is organized into convenient “journals” all listed in the sidebar. I have journals for each blog I post to and journals for my fiction writing as well. I even have a journal to track poetry and prose submissions. Currently I am in the process of importing and transcribing almost twenty years of writings to MacJournal.
A few more features I love:
Share: I can share anything I write via email just by clicking the Share menu and choosing the E-Mail option.
Full Screen: For distraction free writing, I simply click on the Full Screen button and MacJournal disappears leaving only a black screen and text in the color of my choice.
Inspector: MacJournal’s inspector has so many useful features. For each entry I can set the status, priority, add tags and labels, and see in an instant when I last worked on a project. I can also add background images, create templates, and sort my documents.
Automatic Backup: MacJournal creates automatic backups in the background while you work. Of course, I backup to an external drive as well. I learned my lesson four years ago when I lost my first completed novel.
So that is my user update. If you are writer or blogger and a Mac user, give a try. I think you’ll like it.
