Go Ahead, Inspire Me!

4-hour-work-week

A few weeks ago, I picked up a copy of The 4-Hour work Week: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich by Timothy Ferris. I’m taking my time to read the book, process what Tim’s trying to teach, but so far, I’m very pleased with what I’ve picked up.

I’m interested in hearing if anyone else has read it, what they thought and how they might have implemented some of Tim’s lessons into their own work week.

In the same visit to Barnes and Noble, I picked up a copy of Secrets of Millionaire Moms and Nice Girls Don’t Get Rich: 75 Avoidable Mistakes Women Make with Money for the business and entrepreneurial aspects and just for fun, I also picked up No One Cares What You Had for Lunch: 100 Ideas for Your Blog – which by the way is a must read for every blogger.

I’m going through one of those phases where my brain feels like a sponge. The more I learn, the happier I am. So while the iron is piping hot, I was hoping some of you could point me in the direction of your own must reads — at least where online business, blogging and making money online are concerned.

So, What’s on your book self?

I’ve been on a fiction kick. I just finished reading The Cinderella Pact by Sarah Strohmeyer. It was so good, i ordered The Secret Lives of Fortunate Wives.

I also want to get to Me by Katharine Hepburn to review for my classic movie blog. And because I love kate!

I keep seeing the millionare mom one, let me know how it is. I saw a review of 4-weeks over at Genius Types so I’ll have to start looking for it since you were the second one to mention it.

I’m reading and loving “Blogging Tips:What Bloggers Won’t Tell You About Blogging.” by Lorelle Van Fossen.

I hope you’ll do a review of your book buys, when you’ve read them, Gayla. They all sound great. The 4 hour work week one is certainly getting positive coverage.

I passed this book onto my corporate-working husband and getting more out of, “Living the 80/20 Way” by Richard Koch. I’ll have to check out the blogging book, thanks for recommending it~

I am going to pick up “No One Cares What You Had For Lunch”. When I started the new blog, I was really into personal stuff, what Alex ate, etc., and then I realized that no one cares. I am trying to keep it so there is at least a 1:1 ratio of personal entries to useful entries.

I’ve ordered Blogging Tips and will be checking out the 80/20 Way soon.

So far the 4-Hour Work Week has taught me so much. Even little changes in how you answer your phone can be the difference between a productive day and not.

Mike – you’ll be pleased with the “No one cares” book. It puts you in the right frame to come up with new and creative ways of incorporating your family into your blog.

Unless your the mom of four teens that is :D

Thanks Gayle for this post.
I have heard about the 4 hour work week however, I am skeptical about that in regards to the entrepreneurial world. I just don’t see it. However, I am not saying that it doesn’t probably contain tips to help with productivity in our day, but getting us to a 4 hour work week, hmmm, I just don’t know.
The newest book that I am reading is CoDependent No More by Melody Beattie. If you don’t think you are codependent, once you start reading this book, you will be surprised to know that you probably are in some way. However, the great thing about it, is that you can change it. This book talks about not allowing others to control your life and you don’t have to worry about controlling others either. It is very interesting.
I do know a bit about the 80/20 and there is some validity to that theory. You spend 80% of your time doing those things that are directly contributing to making money for your business and only 20% off the other things, you will see benefits in your business.
Note: Another great book to read is Whatever! A Baby Boomer’s Journey into Middle Age by Beverly Mahone. Now, I know the first thing you are thinking is “Why would I read that book, I am not a baby boomer? I am not either, however, I just love the book because while she is talking about menopause and the changes she went through…the book is about so much more than that. It contains guidance about motherhood, relationships, self acceptance with humor and faith.
