While having a discussion with a fellow blogger earlier, I couldn’t believe how well he knew his visitors and their clicking habits.
Can you say you know the average age and gender of your visitors?
What about demographics and keyword analysis?
When you view your stats, what do you tend to pay most attention to?
- Popular pages
- Entry pages
- Exit pages
- Keywords
- Visitor Paths
- Visit Length
- Browsers
And why are those aspects so important to you?

I pretty much only really pay attention to pageviews and unique visitors (as reported by statcounter). When I can’t think of stuff to write about, I do pay attention to search keywords (from HitTail). Recently I’ve been paying a lot more attention to referrer.
Great question, Gayla.
Like most I look at unique visitors (returning/new) and referrers first. Mostly because they’re the first thing I see.
Then I usually look at popular, exit and entry in that order. I usually cross reference popular by visit length.
I almost never look at keywords. Just not worried about it yet. Visitor paths, probably look at once-per-month.
Browsers, I’ll look at only when I make updates and changes to my site design or functionality. Which, interesting enough, is going to be soon.
For me, the most important two stats are referrers and exit pages.
Gotta check out referrals…that’s how you know who’s talking about you and what they’re saying.
In regards to your post, “How well do you know your readers?”, it made me think about something new I have recently found out about and that is Google Analytics. I am in the midst of adding it to my blog and it is suppose to be an easy way to manage and “analyze” the items you mentioned in your post. What is other’s opinions in regards to Google Analytics?
