It’s 4-H Fair Time

by Gayla Baer

4hHave you ever had something happen at just the right time and just know that it was something a little more than coincidence? That sort of thing happened to me just last evening.

While I was toiling over providing a post here on MomGadget for today, Amanda dropped me an email asking if I would post something for her. At that particular moment, my fingers were typing as fast as they could, preparing for posts to be placed on my blogs throughout the day today. I knew I was going to be away most of today and most of the next several days for that matter.

Amanda was kind enough to offer to guest post for me. It’s funny how sometimes an answer to prayer comes, even when you forget to pray :)

Things are really starting to get exciting around here. We went in early this morning to set up for our county 4-H Fair. We’ll be setting up cages tomorrow for our birds and then taking our birds in on Sunday afternoon. The three boys are reading, quizzing each other in preparation for showmanship and have been cleaning their chickens like they were Paris Hilton’s Tinkerbell.

I might not be able to post long meaningful posts on the topic of blogging or even product reviews (which by the way I’ve got some really neat items I’ll be sharing in the coming weeks) — but I will be popping in as often as I can to share a little bit of our farm life with ya’all.

Cherry Pie

Tuesday is the Pie auction and hubby and I are all set for that! We’ve promised to get two this year so we don’t have to share :) I’ll be really evil and share a pic or two of the prize pies we purchase.

firefliesI do enjoy this time of year. It takes me back to a simpler time. A time when I reflect back on my own days in 4-H. The hot summer nights spent around the park pond chasing fireflies and drinking fresh squeezed lemonade until my hands and legs were so sticky the honey bees would chase after me.

It’s hard to believe I’m actually 40 now and sharing this experience with my own kids. It’s one of those things we’ll treasure for years to come.

I do hope you’ll check back as my family and I share a little bit of our country goodness with all of you.

Lastly, I’d like to send out a very special Happy Birthday to my very dear friend Char. It’s been one of those weeks for her so hop over and give her a little virtual hug for her birthday and add all the smiles you can to her day.
