It’s like wearing new blog shoes

pubmatic

There’s a certain blogger I’ve come to recognize and respect as the foremost authority on advertising when it comes to blogging. Recently I noticed a change to sidebars he is responsible for and like most other times, I clicked the links as if they were bread crumbs he’d left behind.

You’ll notice in the sidebars here on MomGadget, the change in a few ads, their placement and design. Hint: upper right, mid-lower left and beneath the individual post. And what’s better is every time someone clicks around, the ads change — so I’m always serving up fresh new ads and readers aren’t becoming ad blind.

What I’m talking about is PubMatic

If you’re looking to optimize your ads, it’s well worth your time to check out this free service. PubMatic offers effective and easy functions to managing your advertising inventory.

The PubMatic ensures your website is profitable by optimizing it for the highest paying advertising company. Let’s take a look at how PubMatic can help you optimize your banner ads and allows you identify and fix the problem areas that may be bleeding your revenues.

PubMatic is a new online professional revenue optimization, which claims to help you generate the highest revenue possible for your web site’s or blogs ad inventory.

Rather than reading through instructions, I found it most influential to visit the PubMatic Publishers page and in the far right column, click on Take a Quick Tour to see just how easily this program can be set up.

I like that I’m not limited to any one ad network, but rather to an impressive list of preferred networks such as:

  • Google Adsense
  • Yahoo Publishers Network
  • Value Click
  • Tribal Fusion
  • Komli
  • Blue Lithium
  • Adbrite

just to name a few.

If you’re partial to particular ad networks that aren’t included in Pubmatic, you can easily include your own ads in the mix of ads being served up.

I began testing the waters last night with a couple of ads here on MomGadget. Within a couple of hours, the impact was obvious and by noon today, I had PubMatic serving up the ads on all my personal blogs.

Granted, I don’t exactly like the color of ads that are being served up at times, but over time, Pubmatic will recognize the ads that work best and serve those up most often.

In the year I hope to simplify, PubMatic has me off to a fairly good start.

If you do happen to sign up for PubMatic, be sure to check back here and let me know what you think of the program. Deal?

I found out about them a few days ago when I noticed that one of the b5media blogs was using them. Pretty nifty. I had been getting ready to do a little personal php type of thing to do my own ad rotation and this makes it quite a bit easier.

Also, if you don’t like the colors, there is an option to have them “blend in” instead of using the crazy colors.

Under the Optimize Colors click Advanced Settings and then select Blend In. You can also pick to define which colors you want.

How can an individual B5 blog use it?

I think whoever manages the ads must have tested it on a site or so a few days ago. I ended up their via StumbleUpon so I don’t remember which blog it was. I just spot checked a few today and didn’t see it on them.

You might ask in the b5 forum to see if anybody knows about it.

I noticed it there too. I also did some checking and found Darren has reviewed it back in October, I think.

As far as using their colors, I went with it the way I did because they actually take a month or so to monitor to see which specific settings gain the most clicks and then stick with that.

I think it’s worth putting up with for a while to have someone else figure out the science.

Know what I mean?

Does Pubmatic cause trouble with services that sell by the day, like Project Wonderful? Someone is paying for a whole day of a spot.

Ok, this must be that program you were telling me about. I have it saved to my favorites and will check it out very soon! Thanks for reminding me Gayla!

Hi Gayla,

Thanks for the email reply. I am checking this out too! :)

Umm? Are you talking about me Gayla? Wow!? blushing. I wouldn’t exactly call myself a blogger, although I wish I could. (A fake part time one maybe :) Momgadget, now that is a REAL blogger!

Gayla March 6, 2008 at 3:43 am

Chad, of course I’m talking about you. You’re the bomb as far as I’m concerned when it comes to advertising. You can remain modest if you like. There are plenty of us out here who enjoy bragging about you. :)

I hope it is a good option. I am kind of disappointed with Adsense.
It take years to reach the minimum payout. Sometimes I just forget about the ads and when I remember I go check and I see that I have one cent more.
