Jif Omega-3 Peanut Butter

by Stacey Graham

Numm numm numm.  As the mom of five wee girls, I spend a healthy portion of my day sneaking nutrition into a world filled with McDonald’s runs, macaroni and cheese and a hot dog or two.  The good people at Smuckers has made lunch time a little easier by launching a new product: Jif Omega-3 Peanut Butter with Omega-3 DHA & EPA to join their other outstanding Jif Peanut Butters.  Smooth and creamy, Jif Omega-3 uses an encapsulated fish oil source that keeps the fishy smell and taste out of the  peanut butter so your family can enjoy the benefits of the oils without smelling like a salmon.

I tested the peanut butter on the discriminating tastebuds of the girls, all of whom declared it a hit.  Or else I think it was a hit, it was hard to tell with their mouths stuck shut.

Now to find a blackberry jam with Echinacea so I can get over this cold…

This will be an excellent way of getting kids to have more Omega 3 in their diet.

I like the idea of adding Omega-3s to everyday food items. My only question is, how high quality is the O3 in the new Jif?

Omega-3 seems to be the new additive du jour I wonder if we will get to the point that we will have too much Omega-3 fats in our diets and will need to bulk up on the good old fashioned Omega-6′s (will McDonald’s then be considered healthy?)

I love that they came out with this. I really want my kids to get Omega 3 but my 5 year old has Autism and getting him to take the supplements is not easy. He eats alot of peanut butter so this is a good way to get his omega 3 in his diet.
