Texting has definitely allowed my family to communicate more often and there have been plenty of positives to this. However I have seen a difference in the quality time we spend together as a family and how our normal communication has changed. It seems hard these days to have the kids attention for anymore then a few minutes...I can see the good aspects to this but I believe there is a greater price to pay in the end.

I also use Mousemail to monitor my son's email and text messaging and it is a great product! It is 100% free and allows parents to monitor their kids online communications (an absolute necessity these days) without intruding too much on their privacy. Mousemail scans all incoming and outgoing emails and texts for inappropriate content. Any messages that are flagged for bad content are automatically sent to the parents before they reach the kids! Parents can review the messages and decide whether or not their kids will be allowed to see them. This way, children never has to get exposed to whatever harmful content is being sent their way. Usually, parental control software is very expensive and in my opinion, useless, since once a harmful message reaches a kid, the damage is already done.
Thanks for introducing such a useful product at no cost to the customer!

Hi Rachel,
I am so glad you suggested trying Mousemail! I have a 15 year old girl who seems to spend her entire life on the computer or on her cell phone. All she does is text! Anyway, one night I noticed my her phone sitting on the kitchen counter charging (she had already gone to bed for the night). I know she has a boyfriend and since I have seen so many cases of sexting gone bad on the news, I decided to go through her phone. I felt awful doing this but I am glad I did because what I found totally shocked me!
The topless picture of her boyfriend was a bit startling, but nothing compared to the full on shot of his genitals (!!!) that I found soon after. As if that wasn't bad enough, I went through her sent messages and saw that she had sent him a topless picture of herself acompanied by some dirty talk. All I can say is thank god I had already had my evening glass of chardonnay!! Needless to say, I was scared for my daughter.
While I was pacing back and forth trying to figure out what to do, I remembered a front page USA Today article about Mousemail.com, the free site you mentioned!! That same night, I visited Mousemail.com and signed up for the service. It is like a godsend because if my daughter tries to send or receive an inappropriate text or email, it gets diverted to me before it reaches the person it was meant for! I do not feel like I am spying on my daughter anymore (no need to search her phone behind her back!!). I truly feel like I am protecting her. If those pictures got into the wrong hands, she could get in the kind of trouble that ruins lives.
We had quite a chat the next morning!! Once I explained the risks involved with sexting (child pornography charges, registration as a sex offender, threats from child predators) she seemed pretty scared and actually didn't mind that we had signed up for Mousemail. I am so glad you are spreading the word about this wonderful service (not only is it FREE, but it is also the only one of its kind)!
Thank you!

I am a mother of a wild 13 year old girl and she is always texting with her phone. I feel safe about her communication with friends on her phone because my girlfriend just recently informed me about a site that actually monitors your child's email and texting capabilities. Whenever anyone writes something that is inappropriate I get the email or text and have to give permission for it to be passed down to my daughter. It has been extremely helpful for me and my nerves. The site is mousmail.com if anyone needs help as well.

I agree, texting is a great tool. If it's too loud to hear a phone call, but you need to get information to someone, you don't have many other options. If your child or friend does not have a text messaging plan, they could always use a free texting site like www.fivedigittext.com. That site allows replies and does not require you to know the other person's carrier (most require carrier and do not support replies).
