If you have young children, as I do then you know teaching them about life is one of the hardest things to do …So. Many. Questions!
I was recently introduced to a couple of books that have made this parental task a little easier.
The first book – Liking Me helps parents teach children to like who they are before all the pressures comes about in the teen years. We all know any help in this situation is a God send. This book has been recommended by teachers and various other professionals who deal with children on a daily basis.
Liking Me focuses on helping kids deal with their emotions, not just to act out. And let me tell you, I have seen a difference in my boys. Instead of fighting they draw or write a letter to express the way they feel. I know sounds a little unreal and too good to be true – they do still fight a little, they just don’t fight about every little thing.
It doesn’t happen over night but when my boys are having a bad day I have them read or I will give them a exercise from the book to do and the day suddenly gets easier.
Next…
The Mouse, The Monster and Me it is more focused on children 8 and up. We all know that this stage is so important in a kids life. It’s during this time that we can impress upon them just how they can understand in their terms how to peacefully and non-violently solve problems.
The illustrations in this book as well as the other book are cute, entertaining and and easy for a child to relate to and understand in the terms they like. I really enjoyed my boys reading these books and the lessons it has help me teach them. With three young boys, I’m appreciative of all the help I can get.
