I’m a 48-year-old mom to three young adults and wife of one older adult. 
I have lived in Montreal all my life but have visited many areas, so I know that there’s a big, big world out there. I speak English and French, but I’ve lost my Dutch along the way. By the way, if you want to pronounce my name properly, it’s something like: muh-RYE-keh/kah. It’s a Dutch name that means “little Mary.”
I’m a professional health writer and a registered nurse. I have worked online for several years and have several blogs, mostly health-related over the years. Right now, I’m the health writer and men’s health writer at www.BlissTree.com and I have my own blog with comments about health stuff in general called Marijke: Nurse turned writer (http://medhealthwriter.blogspot.com).

I’m interested in a lot of things but I’m a very prolific (perhaps obsessive?) hand-quilter. I also love gadgets of just about any time. If something comes out that claims to be a time saver, fun, or just a new way to do things, I have to get my hands on it.
I also love things that make my home more of a home, from thick lush towels to gorgeous bouquets of flowers. I love animals and have had many dogs over my life time. My last two dogs were racing greyhounds, retired from racing life. I’m very passionate about their adoption and helping people understand what wonderful pets they make.
Finally, as a nurse with many years of experience in many departments, I know a good bit about life within the health care system and the needs of people who are dying (palliative care is a particular passion of mine) and the elderly.
