Mead Writing Fundamentals Review and Giveaway

by Marissa

This giveaway has ended! The winner was

#3 Susan Varney and was chosen by Random.org.

If you have bored kids sitting at home or you just want them to keep using their brains this summer, check out these great products from Mead and enter for a chance to win them!

As parents keep kids’ academic skills in check this summer with flashcards and reading materials, experts say they should consider brushing up on another important skill – handwriting.

Developing writing skills is half the battle of literacy, but while it is equally important to develop writing skills as it is to develop reading skills, writing isn’t always sufficiently covered in school. In fact, as little as 10 minutes a day is spent on the subject and typically no instruction is provided past the third grade, leaving as many as 20 percent of children struggling with handwriting.

Many parents don’t realize handwriting development begins well before pencil hits paper. Activities that build eye-hand coordination, introduce pre-writing shapes and focus on multi-sensory skills lay the foundation for successful handwriting.

The Mead Writing Fundamentals products are designed to guide parents on how best to introduce and facilitate fundamental writing skills for young learners. Divided into four stages based on the developmental level of the child, these tools progressively build upon one another as children master the skills necessary for writing success.

The use of color to aid focus and increase retention, helpful reminders for proper hand placement, and clever cues for paper stabilization are carried throughout the line.

My Opinion
As a past preschool teacher’s assistant and current mother, I know how important writing is! That is why I was so excited to receive these great Mead Writing Fundamentals products! I received some of the Stage 1 products because my little guy is a little small but will be coloring and writing before I know it! I am so excited for him to use these!

Path Quest is a great activities book that incorporates a lot of different skills – plus it looks fun! The Snip-It booklet has a lot of great activities that emphasizes the cutting with scissors skill plus has stickers! I know this will really help my little guy when he is older master cutting! And my favorite of all was the Dry Erase Activity Board! It had so  many activities included in this one board plus it was dry erase so it can be used over and over!

I recommend Mead Writing Fundamentals products for all children to do this summer! They have products for almost all ages and all children could always use some extra practice – especially in the summer! And the greatest part of all  is that they won’t even mind because they are all so fun to do!

I simply love your giveaways! And Mead Writing Fundamentals seems to be very fun and exciting..not to mention how educative it is. Perfect for the kids…now they have what to do in the summer besides watching TV and playing mind-less computer games. Thanks!

I like the Journals. My class would write in these everyday before class begins.

Jenn S. July 19, 2010 at 6:23 pm

I like the Snip-It™. My kids really need to work on their cutting skills.

Steph July 22, 2010 at 1:52 pm

My favorites are the Mead Lowercase Letter Stories and the Mead Number Stories. I have 2 young kids that are just starting handwriting and it can be trying at times. One only seems to want to write in capital letters and the other can’t grasp that words need spaces between them. We work alot on handwriting and I think both of these would be a great addition to our curriculum.

Thank you for the entry,
