Philips Sonicare Flexcare and UV Sanitizer – A MomGadget Review

by Gayla Baer

Philips Sonicare FlexCareOver the last few weeks, my husband and I have been trying out the new Sonicare Flexcare and UV Sanitizer by Philips.

When I was first introduced to the Sonicare and the sterilizing abilities of the UV Sanitizer, it was love at first sight.

I don’t EVEN have to tell you the horrifying tales of the minions of germs that live in my house – simply stating that I have one husband, four teens (three of which are boys) and three dogs should yank you right into the midst of my germish nightmare.

We’ve just undergone a five week battle of trying to rid one child of an uncomfortable staph infection in his throat. Does that paint a grand mental portrait for you?

I only wish more necessities around the house had the cleaning options that my new Sonicare has.

I’m sure you’ve heard the stories of the germs that set up residence in personal bathrooms – including Yours! Let me ask you this – Do you store your toothbrush in an open air container? Do you have any clue as to just how nasty that is?

The only thing I dread more than dirty hands is dirty teeth and bad breath. Especially my own! Sonicare has totally eliminated that dread and has created a whole new compulsion.

You know that feeling you have when you first walk out of the dentistsonicare-UV-Clean 1 office? When you’re running your tongue around your teeth, losing yourself in the amazing feeling of squeaky clean teeth? That’s what you get with Sonicare. The only thing missing is the grainy, powdery residue that’s left around your mouth by the dentist.

I never knew just how much my toothbrush was lacking in providing me with ultra clean teeth – until I compared the toothbrush and Sonicare in the same day. There’s absolutely NO comparison. I paid tribute to my old toothbrush and tossed it out with the garbage!

What’s more, considering that I’m a heavy coffee and tea drinker, I had absolutely NO clue as to just how yellow my teeth were until Sonicare worked it’s magic. I seriously think the last time I had a smile this radiant was when I was three!?!?

Integrating Sonicare into your daily habits does take some getting used to. You’ll want to make sure you have it on the proper setting, apply the toothpaste and have it IN your mouth before turning it on – otherwise you’ll have toothpaste ALL over the bathroom mirror. On the flip side of that coin, you’ll want to shut it off before removing it from your mouth – same hazard applies. It’s a little noisy and might cause you to be a little jumpy on the first use, but once you get used to it, you’ll find it an irreplaceable part of your daily routine.

I have found I have my own preference of settings to avoid the feeling as though my lips were numb, but I’ll leave that to you to decide on your own preferences.

There is a 30-second interval timer that helps to conduct a thorough brushing of each quadrant of your mouth. The timer almost sounds as though it’s stuck in gear but it’s this little guys way of letting you know it’s time to move on. I like that!

This sterile beauty may be a little salty in price, but when you think of the benefits you’re providing yourself, your smile and your health, I hardly think it’s worth concern.

I have used sonicare for over 5 years (at least) now, and wouldn’t use anything else. On any trip to the States (sigh) I would stock up on replacement brush heads.

I honestly believe that the initial cost is far outweighed by the money saved on dental treatments :)

My original Sonicare was only replaced last year :)

Angi, you’re the very reason I was looking so forward to trying out the new Sonicare. It really is everything you told me it would be and then some :)

It looks like I found what I will ask for christmass…

Need to see if Amazon has it in France.
(I didn’t find it, but Philips has a dedicated Sonicare website)

I love my new Sonicare Flexcare. It is available on Ebay and Amazon for less than retail and replacement brushheads are there too.

I have used Sonicare in the past and found it improved my oral hygiene. I have recently seen new research that shows the Japanese are working with a tooth brush that uses light to clean teeth.

Just bought the new Sonicare + (plus) HX 6992 on Ebay. I will check back in a few weeks and give my “evaluation” of the brush and UV sanitizer performance.

I would like to buy an ultrasonic toothbrush, but can’t find the answer to a couple questions. I hope you will be able to answer them.
1) Is there a difference between a “Sonic” toothbrush and an “Ultrasonic” toothbrush?
2) Do you know what the differences are between the Philips FlexCarePlus toothbrush and the Philips HealthyWhite toothbrush (the one my local Costco is currently carrying)?
I’d appreciate any input you can offer.
