This post is all about scissors! Whether you knit, sew, embroider, quilt, scrapbook, or paper craft, you know the importance of a good pair of scissors. It is my opinion that if your hobby is important enough to invest a good deal of your time and energy, you should also invest in quality tools to get the project done right. Simplicity’s line of scissors and crafting implements are made from high quality German steel and are affordable enough not to break your crafting budget.

8” Fabric Shears
If you sew or quilt, a quality pair of fabric shears is a must. Simplicity’s 8” Fabric Shears have razor sharp blades ensuring precise cuts that leave behind clean edges on the fabric. These shears feature a large thumbhole and a smooth opening and closing action that is not tiring for your hands. Made from high quality, hand polished German Steel, these scissors are reminiscent of the traditional heirloom scissors our grandmothers used to use. They feel good in your hand and I love the sound they make when cutting fabric. I tested these shears on quilting fabric and was able to cut the tiniest slivers of fabric.

6” Straight Blade Trimmers
If you are looking for something on the lighter side of fabric shears but still want a decent blade length with precise cutting action, Simplicity’s 6” Straight Blade Trimmers might be just the right pair of scissors for you. The blades are polished on the inside edge creating a nice, smooth cutting action from the super sharp edges. These scissors claim to have oversized finger holes. My hands are small and the finger holes felt quite comfortable. If you have larger fingers you might want to try them on for size before buying. They have a nice weight to them and performed well.

4” Large Ring Straight Blade Scissors
I love working with felt! Some of my recent projects include tiny felt houses and owl shaped key fobs. Working with small pieces of fabric and intricate shapes requires a small pair of straight blade scissors with a super fine point. Simplicity’s 4” Large Ring Straight Blade Scissors allow me to make precise cuts with clean edges. The large finger holes are comfortable but this smaller scissor seems to lack the same smooth opening and closing action of the larger scissors. Still, the ability to make precise cuts that do not require you to open the blades to their fullest extent makes this pair is a keeper.

4 ½” Large Ring Curved Blade Scissors
The blades of Simplicity’s 4 ½” Large Ring Curved Blade Scissors are not quite as fine as the straight blade scissors but they do offer the comfort of knowing you won’t accidentally puncture your fabric. The curve of the blade protects your project when snipping threads close to your fabric. Again, the opening and closing is not as smooth as the larger scissors but for safe, repeated thread snipping this is a useful pair of scissors.

4” Blunt Point Scissors
When I first eyed Simplicity’s 4” Blunt Point Scissors, the thought that came to mind was grammar school not sewing. I am an adult after all, what need do I have for safety scissors? I don’t run with them…well not anymore. Then it occurred to me, I do have a need for these. I travel by plane several times a year and with the TSA’s safety regulations, nothing more than a 4” scissor blade is allowed. While I could legally carry the 4” Large Ring Straight Blade Scissors, I’m not the kind of person to leave things to chance. These blunt nose scissors are the perfect solution. Made from the same high quality German steel, they offer a clean cut and a tool suitable for travel.

4 ½” Curved Blade Snips
I am one of those quilters who has a love/hate relationship with my seam ripper. I hate to have to use it but I don’t know what I would do without it. The problem with a seam ripper is if you aren’t careful while using it you can pull and stretch your fabric as you cut each stitch. Simplicity’s 4 ½” Curved Blade Snips solves that problem. The snips have tiny blades that slip under even the tightest of stitches. A gentle squeeze on the handle and the thread is snipped without the pulling action of a seam ripper. A micro-serrated blade on one side keeps the blades sharp for a very long time. These are a must have for your sewing kit.

3 1/2” Gold Straight Blade Scissors
This little pair of scissors has both style and function. What could be more dainty than a pair of gold handled embroidery scissors? Super fine blades, small and sharp, these scissors are perfect for the serious embroiderer. The opening and closing action is smooth and easy. At $14.99 a pair they are affordable for most budgets.

4” Jackpot Scissors
Simplicity’s 4” Jackpot Scissors are another pair of small scissors offering large finger holes for a comfortable fit. This another favorite for getting under tiny stitches. The tapered ends of the blades have extra fine tips that are incredibly sharp. This is another tool to make my seam ripper jealous!

7.5” Applique Duckbill Scissors
I am fairly new to appliqué and consider myself a novice who is not completely familiar with the tools of the trade. While I have seen duckbill scissors before, I had never actually handled them and really had no clue what they were used for. Off to the internet to do a bit of research. What I found was very interesting. The duckbill scissors are perfect for appliqué in that the shape allows for close, level trimming. The large curved duckbill holds down the fabric and protects it allowing you to make precise snips close to your stitches. Not only is this of great use for appliqué projects but it can also be a useful tool for quilters, crafters and seamstresses who like to reduce the bulk of seam allowances. Again, this pair of scissors is made with that same German steel and high quality construction. Another useful tool made better by Simplicity!

4 ½” Angled Tweezers
Simplicity’s 4 ½” Angled Tweezers are the final tool in my review of Simplicity Scissors. Okay so they aren’t really a cutting implement but they are an essential, yet often forgotten, tool of the quilter or crafter. Whether you are picking threads, threading a sewing machine needle, or tearing paper for a paper piecing project, these tweezers are perfectly angled for even the most precise work. Use them for embellishing projects, beadwork or making jewelry.
