Shock Coffee- MomGadget Review

Because, you know, sleep is totally over-rated.

I wrote the Shock Coffee company last month to request some samples. The coffee has up to 50% more caffeine than regular coffee. I wanted to see if it could fuel my weird working hours. ( If you’re sensitive to caffeine, I don’t suggest trying this coffee! )

Imagine my surprise when, without an email warning, one day on the front porch was a large, heavy box with this shocking red and yellow logo. Instantly, I knew what it was. Grabbing the precious box before the hubby could get a whiff of the cargo, I ran inside.

My covert maneuver didn’t work. There was a train of Fletchers behind me, 5 deep. The box ended up on the counter while I protectively hovered in front of it going, “It’s nothing, I swear!”

I like to tease my husband. He’s so cute when his curiosity is driving him nuts. I did open the box and found more than just coffee! Iced coffee in cans-both Mocha and Latte, candied coffee, 3 sample size bags of ground Shock-original and organic, plus a rockin’ red cup.

This is the product line-I got a small sample of everything except the cappuccino:

  • Energy Blend Coffee
  • Organic Fair Trade Blend
  • Shock-A-Lots® Chocolate-Covered, Candy-Coated Coffee Beans
  • Triple Mocha ready to drink 8 oz can
  • Triple Latte ready to drink 8 oz can
  • Shock-A-Cino Hyper Caffeinated Instant Powdered Cappuccino

The first item I tried was the Shock-A-Lots. The flavor was interesting. Imagine M&Ms with a chocolate/coffee filling. The only thing I didn’t like was the somewhat gritty texture. It really wasn’t bad, just slightly odd.

I brewed a pot of the Organic Fair Trade next. I liked the full, strong taste. We brew our coffee so it can very nearly jump out of the pot and slap us awake. Two cups of this had me ready to face the day and feeling good about the origins of my brew. I’m really happy that Shock offers this option.

The iced coffees I used at night when I felt myself getting too tired to write. I enjoyed the taste of both varieties, neither too sweet nor bitter. Some pre-bottled iced coffees can be overpowering the their sweetness. The caffeine gave a nice kick, I didn’t feel ‘buzzy’, just more awake.

This morning I used the last of the Energy Blend. I mixed it into my normal coffee, because we were running low. Normally, the brew would be weak with no noticeable ‘kick’, but the addition of the Energy Blend balanced out the pot nicely.
In a nutshell? I loved the products and if you’re into coffee, I suggest giving Shock a try. Now, I’m off for a refill!

I love coffee! But it doesn’t do great things for me so I try not to have too much. For one, it seems to have the opposite effect from everyone else in that it often makes me really tired and starts me yawning! I wonder if this one with it’s extra caffeine would work as a sedative for me perhaps? Hmmmmm

I tried a sample of Shock that was in front of a store in White River Junction, Vermont, this summer. I called in inquire about the coffee and I too was thrilled to receive a wonderful sample box. I’m now hooked on the Shock Organic Blend- really good. Thanks, Shock!

I heard about this product from a co-worker many years ago. Sounds interesting but there’s no way this can be good for you in the long run.

Just what I need sky-walking 20 stories up! Seriously I’d rather drink caffeine laden coffee that those energy drinks floating around.
