So you want to set your quilt blocks on point. You’ll be needing some setting triangles. Why the look of fear on your face? It’s just a little math. Let’s get started!
First, take your finished block size and multiply it by 1.41. This is the finished length of the triangle’s longest edge. Now round up to the nearest 1/8”. You can find a chart online that will help you do that. Now cut a square that has sides that are 1 ¼” longer than the number from the first step…oh I’m sorry, have I lost you?
Okay scratch that! Skip the math altogether and go out and get yourself a Simpli-EZ Flip N Set from Simplicity Studio. Follow these easy steps to cut your setting triangles:
Open the Flip N Set and locate your finished block size. Let’s say they are 7” squares. The Flip N Set tells us we need to cut a 6” strip of fabric.
Next, lay the Flip N Set on your 6” strip aligning the point with the top of your fabric and the 7” measuring line along the bottom of the strip.

Cut on the right outside edge.

Now flip and set the tool so that the point is at the bottom of the strip and the edge lines up with your first cut.

Cut on the right outside edge and repeat until you reach the end of your strip.

Don’t let calculating the size of setting triangles intimidate you! Simpli-EZ Flip N Set does the math so you don’t have to.
