Now that DVDs have taken over and everyone has a collection of VHS tapes taking up a corner gathering dust – why not toss them out – but keep them out of the landfills.
It’s as simple as dropping them in the mail to Alternative Community Training – a nonprofit company based in Missouri that provides jobs to people with disabilities.
Workers erase the tapes, resell those in good shape and recycle the plastic in what remains.
To date, they’ve recycled more than 1 million tapes.

What a great way to reuse the tapes! Not to mention a wonderful way for people to gain independence and a feeling of self worth.
Oh man – I have an embarrassingly large stack of tapes that I’ve not been able to toss. Just hated to think of them in the landfill. Thank you for the info and the address. What a good cause!
Great idea.
I can see this happening for CDs and DVDs a few years from now.
Thanks
Aww that’s great
I will make a mention of this in my next post on recycling. Thanks for the resource. I’ll include you in the shout. I think Fenix is right. There are many things you can recycle now for cash or to help a cause such as the one this does which is a really good thing.
