I’ve been watching Veggie Tales ever since my 12 year old was 3 and I’m still watching it. I remember with my oldest how we’d watch it for the sake of the lessons, however as time has moved on I’ve become fascinated with the cute little songs that they sing and of course Larry the Cucumber.

All four of the kids love these movies, even if they try to deny it. They each have a favorite character or song. Recently we were sent the new Veggie Tales: Saint Nicholas: A Story of Joyful Giving” to review for this giveaway.
In “Veggie Tales: Saint Nicholas: A Story of Joyful Giving” first it introduces viewers to Operation Shoebox Child and teaches the kids about people packing shoeboxes to send to kids that don’t really get a Christmas. Even mine are shouting they want to do this. As the movie begins we see a small town being joful and singing Christmas carols, but as everyone is singing someone is walking their truck up to the shop because it broke down. Now everyone knows how it feels to have a car breakdown, but during this time is no fun.

The vehicle that is broke down belongs to young Laura Carrot, the auto-mechanic won’t fix it unless he has money. He won’t get paid until he can deliver all the packages, sadly he must leave his truck there and explain to Laura’s mom. Larry and Bob hear the story and try coming up with ideas to help out, Larry insists writing Santa will solve everything. This is where Bob decides to tell everyone the true story about “St. Nicholas.”
My 2-year-old has watched this every day since we got it and he loves the Santa parts. When the music comes on he’ll bob around, especially when the dog is dancing.
I won’t go into too much but a young boy named Nicholas loses everything (there is a really sad part in here where he loses his parents, for those with sensitive children) after a horrible event, eventually he discovers it is a good thing to help those in need. Slowly as the story develops something else will be happening in Laura’s little town. Find out what happened to Nick and Laura’s town?
My 6-year-old told me, “it showed me what Christmas is and that you have to spend time with your family and give.” I asked what she meant by give, “You have to give to other people and help them.”
My 9-year-old loved the singing, “I can care because God loves me,…” was her favorite parts.
To purchase your own you can get it for $19.99 at Amazon, however right now it is $9.99
