For my performance in today’s Carnival of Red Hot Bloggers – Where Char at Casual Keystrokes is playing ringmaster, I decided to jump in with my own “Tales from the Playdate Files.”
Many parents are chiming in with their own tales or tips and while I’m years beyond the playdate stage with my twins, I have moved on to the teen version.
The boys and I have never been real big on the whole playdate/having company thing – and maybe I made some terrible mistake in not watching myself better when the boys had their friends over, but apparently my being such a neat freak has rubbed off on my kids.
A few years back the boys had a sleepover, they weren’t real happy when they realized that having company means you have to take care of that company. Offer them drinks, snacks, etc.
Once the friends had gone home, it was time to clean up all the messes. That went over like a lead balloon – let me tell ya! They were NOT happy!
Off in the distance, you could hear little grumbles of frustration – while picking up, cleaning up, folding up and putting up.
For someone who can’t stand touching their own plate after a mean to rinse and place in the dishwasher, this was quite a chore for Mr. Clean.
Since that time, they’ve become very selective in whom they have sleepover and the entire time they have company, they make sure their friends are fully aware of the house rules.
