To Tan or Not To Tan?

tanning

Now that we’re actually feeling the push of spring and spring break about to begin for so many, tanning beds are filling up with those hungry for that sun kissed glow.

Years ago, it was suggested to me by a doctor that I visit a tanning salon periodically throughout the winter to help treat my seasonal depression. When I begin feeling as though I’m falling deeply into a funk, I make a couple of trips and the depression is kept in check. It actually does help me.

I’ve also had lengthy discussions with a few dermatologists who actually support “controlled” tanning in moderation.

Based on what they said, skin cancer is linked to repeated sunburn, but if a tanning bed is used properly and if the person doesn’t attempt to “power tan” they can actually achieve a healthy glow with minimal risk.

With that said, I’m wondering what MomGadget readers do when they begin changing out their wardrobes to bring their warm weather clothes out?

Do you visit a tanning salon or support the use of tanning as such?

Do you use a sunless tanning product? If so, which one and why?

Do you just live with being a white girl/boy?

While we’re on the subject, I found this interesting page that seeks to dispel many of the myths surrounding tanning.

I do frequent tanning salons when I am feeling down. Something about them relaxes me. I heard tanning releases endorphins? Not sure but I do feel and look sexy when done tanning.

I tan once or twice a month during the Winter. I have mild Eczema and it does wonders and keeps the dry skin away during the cold and harsh weather of winter.

My mom is spanish and lives in Denmark, a country which is not known for its sun and beachy weather. She goes to the tanning salons every now and then for keeping her tan and for not getting depressed because of the grey skies in Denmark.

I never realized about the Mood… I go tanning once a week and I typically feel good after. I always thought it was because I LOOKED good and not because of the RAYS pumping me up, interesting stuff.

of course i do tan when i am not feeling cool and relaxable, and it is a best method i think to be relaxed and looking fresh every time. I go tanning once a week which is really very beneficial for me.

tanning is something that honestly should be done with more caution than pretty much anybody has any idea of… I do tan often, however I practice safe tanning. I also use fake tanner during the winter months. I have written a review on my personal favorite. Here is my Joliese tan review
