Have you ever wondered what you could have possibly done to a friend to cause your relationship to become tense? Or maybe you’ve wondered why some women relate better to men?
Me too!
I was pleased to get a chance to read Toxic Friends by Susan Shapiro Barash because 1. It really puts things into perspective and 2. It makes me feel much less an island when it comes to relationships.
Any red blooded woman needs and thrives on companionship of all types. Toxic Friends identify and distinguish between a good friend and a toxic friend. It goes further to break the friendships into easily identifiable groups and lets you know what characteristics the different types of friends might have.
While you’re not encouraged to dump the toxic friends in your life, you are given tools to cope and deal with their bad behavior and traits. Furthermore, you’ll learn the value each of the different types of friends bring to our lives at different times.
The different groups are as follows:
- The Leader: Ruling the Pack
- The Doormat: High School Onward
- The Sacrificer: Blind Spots
- The Misery Lover: Down and Out
- The User: Self-Serving Friends
- Intimate Frenemies: Idolspizing
- The Trophy Friend: Conquest in Motion
- The Mirroring Friend: Circumstantial Bonds
- The Sharer: A BF in the Making
- The Authentic Friend: The Real Deal
These are the types of friends Susan has broken down into Chapters. I’ve come to recognize many of these types of people in my own life, both past and present and find myself gauging their value or influence and whether they might be on their way to your door.
If you’re in need of a good read to add to your summertime reading list, this is a must add. I am sure you’ll find it just as valuable as I have.
